So I have another dilemna

Alright, next semester I’ll only have about seven credit hours to complete in order to get my degree. My original plan was to take the seven, and depending on what is going on with my internship (mainly money wise), I’d add more classes or leave just the seven credits in order to spend more time interning/working. But now some other options have sorta made themselves available. The catch, neither is certain. Let’s get started.

Option 1
I’m in my marketing class and it’s pretty great. A lot of things overlap and it would be good to apply to my major, which brings the first option. Since I only have seven credits left in my Ad/PR program, I can pick up a minor in Marketing.  I would only have five classes left to go.

Option 2
MAIP stands for Multicultural Advertising Internship Program, and the opportunities are amazing. If you’re selected, you’re placed in either: Chicago, LA, New York City (aahhhh!),  Atlanta, Austin, Boulder, Memphis, San Francisco and the list goes on with nearly 25 major U.S. cities. It’s a 10-week paid internship with a “graduation” and job fair in New York City at the end of the program.

Now you’re thinking, “Wow Tamara, that sounds amazing! Why exactly are you complaining?” Here’s where things get sticky.

If I take option one, it trumps my plan of graduating in May and would push it back to August. It wouldn’t be that big of a deal if my apartment lease didn’t end in June and/or if MAIP wasn’t a possibility. (My original “big plan” was to move out of my apartment, straight to NYC even if I had not found a job yet because, from what I’ve been told and observed, there is a lot of room to wiggle in the ad industry there. Therefor, it shouldn’t take long to find a job.) I have to apply for graduation by December 1st if I want to graduate in May so I have to make a decision soon. Also, I’m pretty much out of financial aid so I’d be footing the bill.

BUT

If I take option two, deliberations go on until about March and then you find out where you’ll be placed. If/when I make it to MAIP, (I like to speak positively, not to be cocky, but to keep my determination), that will interrupt my marketing minor plans if I decide to take it on. So, I would have to come back to Florida and do another semester to finish the minor. This situation would be even worse because I’d have to pay for school AND housing.

Now to make things clear, if it sounds like I’m complaining, yea I am kinda, but that wasn’t my original intent. Writing this all out is helping me really see my options and how things can turn out. I just need some help deciding which option to take. Hit submit below to tell me what you think. I’ll take all answers into consideration.
